Cowboys running back Felix Jones has shared the spotlight at every level, starting in Tulsa, Okla., with former Booker T. Washington High School teammate Robert Meachem (Saints) and again with Darren McFadden (Raiders) at the University of Arkansas.
"I had to wait on my opportunities there,"
Jones said. "It kind of grew on me since I was younger. It's a great thing when you can have that team camaraderie and go out there and play football."
That's why Jones said he didn't question his lack of touches in last Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Redskins - one week after his 60-yard touchdown run against Green Bay made him the first rookie in Cowboys history to score a TD in each of his first three games.
Jones didn't have a single carry or reception against Washington, and Pro Bowl back Marion Barber also had a significantly smaller role, rushing eight times for 26 yards. The Cowboys' early lack of run production, the score, the lopsided time of possession battle and the Redskins' defensive fronts all contributed to a reduced rushing attack.
Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said the offense will regain its balance, which could mean a much heavier workload for his first-round pick.
In the meantime, Jones will wait patiently.
"The Redskins' defense put us in a situation where we really couldn't do what we wanted to do,"
Jones said. "I understand what happened during the game and I can't complain at all."
"I'm just a rookie. I'm just waiting on my opportunities and once I get mine, just take advantage of it."
