Cowboys take Felix Jones in first round
Tulsa native Felix Jones is a Dallas Cowboy.
Felix Jones, a 2004 Tulsa World All-State running back at Booker T. Washington, was picked by the Cowboys 22nd overall Saturday in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Two Oklahoma Sooners were picked in the second round, ending OU's run of six consecutive years with a first-round pick.
Linebacker Curtis Lofton was drafted by Atlanta with the sixth pick of the second round (37th overall) and wide receiver Malcolm Kelly was taken by Washington with the 20th pick of the second round (51st overall). Both left OU after their junior season.
It was a difficult day for Kelly, who had been projected less than a month ago to be taken by Buffalo with the 11th pick of the first round and was widely regarded as the top wideout in the draft. Instead, his slow 40 times during his pro day apparently scared teams away, and he was the eighth receiver picked.
Another Sooner who decided to forego his senior season, defensive back Reggie Smith, was not picked on Saturday. The draft concludes on Sunday with rounds three through seven.
Tulsa quarterback Paul Smith, Oklahoma State wide receiver Adarius Bowman and OSU running back Dantrell Savage are among more than a dozen other college stars who played locally hoping to be picked Sunday.
