Dallas Cowboys assigned roughly $4.1 million to sign draft picks
The Dallas Cowboys have been assigned a rookie-pool number of $4,095,120 to sign their six draft picks, including first-rounders Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins.
A team's rookie pool is based on the number and position of draft picks and it must fall within the overall 2008 salary cap of $116 million. The Cowboys have a little less than $5 million in cap space available.
The Cowboys could clear cap room by signing safety Ken Hamlin to a long-term deal and coming to terms on a contract extension for running back Marion Barber.
The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Hamlin in March and he counts $4.396 million against the 2008 cap. Barber is a restricted free agent who received a one-year contract tender of $2.56 million. Both numbers could be lowered with new deals.
